Her love for God, people and empowerment has bridged her local ministry to mainstream platforms. Having established and lead churches as a first lady and pastor’s wife alongside her husband, Pastor Dr. Eric L Brown, her attention has been called to broader audiences.
As an Author, Confidence Coach, Leader, and self-proclaimed “Word” Girl, she is equipped and prepared to impact the life of each and every woman she comes in contact with.
HISD Board President Wanda Adams Honored by the Texas Black Women’s Expo EMI AWARDS
Wanda Adams was elected to the HISD Board of Education in 2013 after serving the limit of three two-year terms as Houston City Council Member for District D. Adams’ commitment as a Board of Education Trustee is to continue to incorporate strong literacy programs, strengthen parent and community engagement, and decrease the number of low-performing schools in District IX. Ms. Adams is a native Houstonian that has been committed to support for the homeless, veterans, the disabled, and mentally ill, and is a strong advo- cate for breast cancer awareness. Among the organizations for which she vol- unteers are the Houston Area Women’s Center, YMCA, YWCA, Keep Houston Beautiful, and Meals on Wheels in the Sunnyside community.
Torrei Hart is a businesswoman, actress, and Comedienne. She recently partnered with Chief Trichologist Leola Anifowoshe, also the founder of the Texas Black Women’s Expo and launched her own hair care line called Heavenly Hart Hair Care. Torrei is a strong supporter of women in unity and shines a bright light to help women rediscover their strength.
Torrei will be featured at this year’s EMI AWARDS as well as launch her products at the show. Be sure to stop by the Nzuri booth to meet her.
She’s the former wife of Comedian Kevin Hart. They share 2 beautiful children together Heaven and Kendrix Hart.
DR. MICHALYN DEMARIS PORTER
A passionate Entrepreneur, Business Women and Inventor born and raised in Houston, Texas. Currently, Porter serves as the President & Chief Operating Officer of Aleryn Incorporated. Her company has several holdings of patents for Dr.–Porter’s industrious inventions.
” Most of my products were created because I needed them and they weren’t on the market.” Porter says, ” I literally invented my, latest patented product, the Weave Dryer® after my hair was soaked and there was no way to dry it on my vacation.” Porter says, she went to sleep and “dreamed” what has now become the first blow dryer nozzle for hair- weave wearers to completely dry extensions and weaves. Porter also invented a shampoo glove for Ion hair that can also be used on pets called the Shampoo Genie® United States Patent Pending.
Dr. Porter recalls as a child being very creative and intrigued by the beauty and fashion industry. She spent hours in her Grandmother’s salon on a weekly basis helping her and observing her weaving techniques. This curiosity lead. her to begin to incorporate var1ous beauty techniques in her own fashion to achieve a desired look. She believes it was her grandmothers inspiration which came to her in a dream which lead her to create the award winning Weave Dryer®.
Dr. Porter holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. A Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Additionally, Dr. Porter is an active member in several prominent organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha “Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter – Houston, Texas.
She has more than 20 years of entrepreneurial experience and is an award-winning Lean Six Sigma® Corporate Business Executive. Dr. Porter is a wife and the mother of two young daughters
Right Honorable Tammy Collins Markee
Right Honorable Tammy Collins Markee is a native of New Orleans, but currently resides in Houston, Texas. In humble submission to a life of divine mandate, Tammy is lovingly dedicated to her primary calling as an Evangelist.
Tammy is Founder/CEO of Dynasty Dreamer International.
She holds a Degree from Dillard University, with a major in Urban Planning/Public Policy and concentration in Political Science/Social Work. Tammy was nominated for the United States Presidential Award for Literacy; featured in the Louisiana Weekly Newspaper for winning the JC Penney’s Community Service Award for Literacy and appointed by Mayor Marc H. Morial to serve on the New Orleans Criminal Justice Council.
She is an International Human Rights Activist, Entrepreneur, and Author. A brief sojourn in Europe, where she valiantly advocated against racial injustice and police brutality, led to her appointment as International Affairs Director by Pastor Kenneth Glasgow, brother of Rev. Al Sharpton, a celebrated American Activist. Pastor Kenneth Glasgow is Founder of T.O.P.S.; The Ordinary People Society. Tammy was appointed to the Board of Governors of The Global Institute For Human Excellence by HRH Yomi Garnett MD, the Institute’s President; who bestowed upon Tammy the title, ‘Lady of Letters” for her literary contributions to the enlightenment of humanity.
Also, she is appointed Ambassador to We Care for Humanity by Princess Maria Amor. Tammy is the Business Manager/Literary Agent to HRH Yomi Garnett, MD, Celebrated Host of the Voice America Radio Talk Show, “Dream The Life; Live The Dream.” VOICE AMERICA has over 4.5 Million Global listeners, with High Profile Guest Speakers from all over the world. She is also the host, of Millionaires in Training Radio Show.
Tammy is a Columnist for K.I.S.H. Magazine (Dynasty of Dreamers). In addition, She is the Co-Author, of the books “Dreaming the Dream” and “The Princess In YOU.”

Tammy is protégé of Leonard Stanley Chaikind, Founder of Institutional Investors Consulting Company, IICC. Mr. Chaikind is The Father of Equity Investing in America. Tammy has been appointed the World Leaders Forum Dubai (WLFD) as Business Development Manager/Media Relations.
Velma Trayham is an all-American, Texas gal. She grew up in Houston, Texas, the third ward, and studied Marketing, Business and gained lots of hands-on experience. Velma discovered her passion for inspiring at the early stages of her career.
Velma’s mindset that temporary failure didn’t mean permanent defeat has been her overall message to her audience.
Leveraging her marketing background as a platform, Velma launched THINKZILLA PR FIRM, working with industry leaders such as; Bishop Jakes, Daymond John, Meagan Good, Mayor Sylvester Turner, and Boxer Antonio Tarver. Her business mentors include serial entrepreneur Alan “AP” Powell and Zig Ziglar, help Velma establish herself as a business mogul, speaker, and author. As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of THINKZILLA, Velma has helped develop workshops, mentoring and programs that have transformed companies with her successful marketing systems.
Companies within a one year period saw 200% growth. Some of Velma’s major accomplishments is receiving multiple proclamations by the City Of Houston Mayor as well as being featured in publications such as; Defender Magazine, Sister 2
Sister, Rolling out, Houston Forward Times, Houston Press, Black News, Dallas Weekly, African American news, Jet, and Texas Oil & Gas as a business leader.
Amanda White -Founder of NON-PROFIT Torch Bearer
My personal hope and desire is to carry the message that “Jesus save and recovery from life circumstances is possible”. No matter what, having a full understanding of biblical principles and the working knowledge of 12-step recovery healthy living can be achieved.
Knowing firsthand the challenges of life, from dropping out of school, to living life on drugs, while being subjected to the violent of domestic/sexual abuse. I was able to turn my live around. I enroll into night school and received my GED at the age of 30, recover from the addiction of drug, turn my life over to God and enroll in college toward a degree in License Chemical Dependency while working on Family Counseling at Biblical College.
Knowledge gain from education and personal insight gave me the determination to forge forward in addressing the needs of a vulnerable populations. This became the priority in my life for over the last 20 years. This experience help me to identifying barrier in the system such as financial constraints; local, state or federal policies that restrict offenders from accessing services due to criminal history.
The lack of affordable and safe housing, timely access to substance abuse, opportunities for meaningful employment, health and mental health care treatment, and other basic living supports that have been and continue to be the biggest hurdles in the individual communities. Torchbearer was develop out of these need to bridge the gap and form a more perfect union among the church, state and federal office and the community at large.
